Coming from a secular Jewish family, my sense of my own “Jewishness” was always cultural rather then religious. I had a wonderful relationship with my grandparents who lived just a few blocks from me. Their home was a place of delicious smells, wonderful foods and stories of their lives in Russia and America. When I married and started my own family, I began to explore some of the rituals of Jewish life in order to bring my culture into my home and to my children. These two elements became the foundation upon which I have built my own sense of spirituality and my “Jewishness” …and for me the only natural way to express these feelings was through my art.
