On this page, I'm posting a series of photographs showing the successive stages of a work currently in progress. Check back every week or two to see the latest changes!

After a wonderful trip to visit dear friends John and Cinda in Abiquiu, New Mexico, a painting is starting to form.  There are days of staring into space in my studio, staring at the blank canvas which is all ready to go but not me …. not yet.  It is frustrating but after all these years of painting and wrestling with painting, I know this is the way it begins. You can’t hurry it, just have to wait.  Then after a week the first image drawn in charcoal on the canvas and then the second and then by the afternoon a plan for the painting.  I didn’t really see the coyotes out there in NM but I know they were there as were some buffalo.  We did see lots of petroglyphs and paleoliths on the steep canyon walls and lots of small brush and cypress.  The far away mountains looked purple.  The close up mountains shades of terracotta and browns and yellows.
